Thanks to supporters like you, we have been able to offer intervention and rescue to hundreds of horses!
Most of our cases come in sick, starved, and wounded. Your donations allow us to provide critical care, rehabilitation, and retraining.
Once rehabilitated and retrained, our horses participate in day camps and life-changing therapy for at-risk youth, veterans, and more.
Our horses eat over 30,000 pounds of hay each month. We need help stocking up for the horses before the hay supply dwindles and prices soar.

Equus Rescue and Therapy is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in Millstadt, IL - just a short drive from Downtown St. Louis. We rescue and rehabilitate horses who are retired or injured from the race track, living in horrific conditions, and from kill pens on their way to slaughter. We give them a second chance at life, whether that be a career, a new home, or a dignified retirement.
Equus Rescue also gives back to the community through programs serving at-risk youth like our Equine Angels program. We are expanding Warriors H.E.A.L., a program that honors our returning war veterans. We believe a noble life deserves a second chance.
Our organization continues to grow and thrive due to the generous donations from our supporters and the countless hours worked by our dedicated volunteers!
Horses from many different backgrounds find their way to Equus Rescue, from ex-racehorses to slaughter-bound rescues. Most come to us in poor condition - suffering from mental and physical wounds, along with battling starvation and illness. Following rehabilitation, which often lasts several months, our horses are retrained by certified professional trainers. This process involves several months of unlearning past traumas, learning positive behaviors, and being prepared for their new purpose as therapy horses.
Studies have shown the healing capabilities of equine therapy. Our rescued horses, many of which were once destined for slaughter in Mexico or Canada, or who were starved and neglected, are finding purpose in being therapy horses for at-risk youth, veterans, and others in the community.
Rehabilitation is only the first hurdle we face when taking in a horse in need. Consider making a life-changing donation today, to nourish a horse in need and to support our mission.
