Who doesn't love a good pedicure?

Katie at the auction in Pennsylvania, terrified of the unknown.

Katie and barn cat, Rambo.

Meet Katie!

Katie and her pal Ben were once Amish horses in Pennsylvania. Years ago, they were both discarded by the Amish at a notoriously dangerous auction in PA, known for its sealed fate for many of the  horses there - slaughter. Katie fiercely guarded Ben, allowing no one near him. They were both terrified. Thankfully, we were able to step in at the last minute (literally!) and save these two before they were to be transported to Canada. Two amazing volunteers made the trek from Illinois to Pennsylvania to bring them back to us. Ben was very sick, and Katie was very timid and shy. Both had been abused by the Amish.

Flash forward to today, Katie is working through  her past traumas, learning to trust humans again. We are so thankful for volunteer Beth Wills, who has worked with Katie for a few years now. Thanks to her, Katie has gone from a horse who cowers in the back of her stall nervously to blossoming more and more every day. She used to be terrified at the sound of a carrot snapping, most likely because someone in her life used whips in a harsh manner on her. She has come SO far, and we are so shocked to see how much she trusts people after what was done to her!
